“No medical exam” sounds straightforward. The confusion starts when someone hears it as “my health does not matter.” Those statements mean different things.
Some accelerated underwriting programs skip a physical exam while still considering application answers and outside information, such as prescription history. Some applicants are asked to complete additional underwriting, including an exam. The shortcut is conditional.
Read past the headline
Before choosing a policy, ask what information the insurer needs, what could trigger additional review, and how you will know when the decision is final.
If you are comparing accelerated underwriting, simplified issue, and guaranteed issue, ask the broker to explain each actual product. Labels alone do not tell you the premium, benefit limits, eligibility rules, or whether there is a waiting period for certain death benefits.
Be precise with your answers
Read each question as written. If it asks about a time period, check your dates. If you do not understand a medical or tobacco question, ask for clarification before signing. Do not guess what the company “probably means,” and do not let someone else change an accurate answer to make an application look better.
- What health questions and records are part of this application?
- Could I still be asked to take an exam?
- What are the actual coverage terms if I am approved?
