Almost everyone I meet that has read my “Hands Insurance” blog, asks me: “Do I need to insure my hands? I make a living by using my hands every day”.
The answer is usually YES!
If you depend on your income to pay your bills, then you need to protect your paycheck

If your income depends on your ability to use your hands, then you need SOME TYPE OF COVERAGE that will insure you’ll continue receiving some income to be able to pay your bills, if an accident or illness happens to you.
Notice that I said “some type of coverage”: not all insurance plans are created equal and some are a better fit than others depending on your type of occupation, income, industry you’re working in, etc.
Hands insurance is a type of disability income insurance that protects only the hands. However, what if you hurt your back instead, can you still work? If you knew exactly what’s going to happen to you, it would be easy to protect just that one asset. In most cases, we will tailor a plan for your specific situation, that will also cover additional potential accidents/illnesses, to include coverage for elbows, arms, shoulders, back, legs, etc – technically a comprehensive disability insurance plan that will pay you a monthly income in the event you can’t work due to ANY illness or accident.

What if I want JUST hands insurance? Can I get it?
Yes – many occupations don’t qualify for a regular disability income insurance policy, so they ask us to use the LLOYDS market to get specific body-parts insurance, including hands insurance. Artists, athletes, film stars, TV personalities, renown surgeons, chefs, may choose to insure certain features or body parts, voice, hands, eyes, taste buds, fingers, etc – usually using the coverage as a publicity stunt to get more notoriety, but for the rest of us – there is the comprehensive Disability insurance (similar to the Aflac type coverage) that will make sure we can continue paying our bills even if something will happen to us.
